The Watermark Problem

Watermarked drawings arrive in our inbox every week. It's normal — platforms and suppliers add them to protect files. The problem is what the watermark covers: dimension lines, tolerance callouts, surface finish symbols. The fix is simple: the watermark lives in the PDF or image layer, not in the CAD source file. So we rebuild the drawing from the source.

  • Watermarks hide dimensions and tolerances — quoting blind means conservative, higher prices
  • Low-resolution scans and screenshots blur critical callouts and mislead machining
  • Original files carry customer names and logos — unsafe to share internally or with partners
  • A fuzzy drawing quoted "safe" still produces misquotes — and rework costs land on you

Watermarked Original vs. Source-File Re-Render

Watermarked originalAfter source-file re-render
Watermark covers dimensions and tolerancesEvery callout clean and readable
Customer name/logo embedded — leakage riskOnly part geometry kept, zero customer info
Low resolution — blurs when zoomedRendered from vector source — sharp at any size
Quote has to be padded for uncertaintyExact pricing, no safety margin needed
Not safe to archive or shareClean drawing, safe to store and distribute

How We Clean Your Drawings

  • Source-file check — we identify the original CAD source in your drawing package (DXF / STEP / vector PDF)
  • Re-render — clean technical drawing rebuilt from the source; watermarks simply don't exist in that layer
  • Clean & verify — customer identifiers removed, only part geometry and callouts kept; dimensions, tolerances and material checked against the original
  • Quote & machine — pricing and machining run on the same verified drawing, no translation loss

A South American Robotics Drive Project

A robotics OEM in South America sent us a 29-part aluminum reducer kit — gears, cycloidal discs, shafts and frames — with 3D models but no finished 2D drawings. We re-rendered and analyzed every part from the STEP source files, shared DFM notes on gear accuracy and thin-wall risks, and returned a provisional budget for the whole kit with a firm commitment: exact pricing within 48 hours of the finished 2D drawings. The customer confirmed the scope and assigned a dedicated technical contact.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why can't you quote from the watermarked drawing directly?

Watermarks hide dimension and tolerance callouts. Quoting blind forces us to pad the price; a clean drawing gives you the real number.

  • Which formats can you re-render?

DXF, STEP and vector PDFs are ideal. Scanned or low-resolution images get a feasibility note first — we tell you exactly how much we can recover.

  • Does the re-rendered drawing keep any customer information?

No. We keep only part geometry and technical callouts. Customer names, logos and numbers are removed before the drawing leaves our system.

  • Is drawing preparation free?

Within a standard quotation flow, yes — it's part of our quoting process. Complex rebuilds from scans are quoted separately and approved by you first.
