What We Achieve
What tolerance can TruPart achieve?
TruPart Precision achieves tolerances as tight as ±0.005mm (±0.0002in) on critical dimensions using DMG MORI 5-axis machines and CMM inspection. Standard precision is ±0.1mm for non-critical features.
ISO 2768
ISO 2768 Tolerance Classes
| Class | Tolerance | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Fine (f) | ±0.05mm | Precision fits, mating surfaces |
| Medium (m) | ±0.1mm | General engineering |
| Coarse (c) | ±0.3mm | Non-critical features |
| Very Coarse (v) | ±1.0mm | Rough dimensions |
Cost Reality
When tight tolerance costs more
A part at ±0.005mm typically costs 30-50% more than ±0.1mm due to slower cutting speeds, additional setups, and CMM time. We'll always recommend the most cost-effective tolerance for your application.
Engineering Notes
Factors Affecting Tolerance
- Material: Aluminum holds tighter tolerances than plastics or superalloys
- Geometry: Simple turned parts are easier than complex 5-axis parts
- Surface finish: Ra 0.4μm requires slower finishing passes
- Heat treatment: Parts may shift slightly after treatment
