Frequently Asked Questions

What materials are best for hydraulic flanges and fittings?

We machine hydraulic components from 1018/1026 carbon steel, 4130 chrome-moly, 316 stainless steel, and 6061-T6 aluminum. For high-pressure applications (>3000 PSI), steel is preferred. Material selection depends on the fluid media, operating pressure, and environmental conditions.

What thread types do you machine for hydraulic ports?

We machine SAE (UN/UNF), BSP/BSPP (G), BSPT (R/Rc), NPT/NPTF, JIC (37° flare), ORFS (O-ring face seal), and metric parallel (ISO 6149) threads. All threads are gauged with certified plug and ring gauges. We also machine custom thread forms for proprietary fitting designs.

Do you O-ring groove machining per SAE J518?

Yes. We machine O-ring grooves to SAE J518 and ISO 6162 (Code 61/62) standards for hydraulic flanges, as well as custom groove geometries for special fittings. Groove dimensions — width, depth, and bottom radius — are held to ±0.05mm and verified with optical comparators.

What tolerances can you hold on hydraulic valve spools?

We hold ±0.003mm on spool-to-bore clearance and ±0.5µm Ra surface finish on spool lands. Spools are cylindrical-ground in-house, and each is lapped to its matching bore with measured clearance documented in the inspection report.

Do you supply complete hydraulic manifold assemblies?

We machine hydraulic manifolds from aluminum and steel bar stock, including all port drilling, tapping, cross-hole deburring, and O-ring groove machining. While we do not assemble complete manifold systems, we supply fully machined and deburred manifolds with all port threads gauged and pressure-tested per customer specifications.

What is your lead time for custom hydraulic fittings?

For custom hydraulic fittings and flanges, typical lead time is 3-5 working days for prototypes and 2-3 weeks for production quantities (100-1000 pieces). We offer 24-hour rapid prototyping for emergency breakdown parts. Contact us with your specific quantity and we will provide an accurate lead time.

Buying Guide

Hydraulic Flanges & Fittings CNC Machining — Key Specs Buyers Must Know

1. Material Selection Matters

Hydraulic flanges commonly use 1045/4140 steel or 316 stainless for corrosion resistance in fluid power systems. TruPart stocks certified steel with full material traceability.

2. Tolerance Classes for Sealing Surfaces

Seal faces should be held to ±0.05mm with Ra ≤1.6μm finish. For high-pressure applications above 350 bar, tighter tolerances of ±0.025mm with Ra 0.8μm are recommended.

3. Thread Standards Are Non-Negotiable

BSPP, BSPT, NPT, and SAE threads each have different pitch and taper specs. Confirm thread standard before quoting — wrong thread means a scrapped part.

4. Surface Protection for Shipping

Oil-galvanized, phosphate-coated, or electroless nickel-plated flanges prevent corrosion during ocean freight. TruPart applies anti-rust VCI packaging by default on all hydraulic components.

5. Why a Single-Source Supplier Saves You Time

When your flange supplier also machines mating components like blocks, manifolds, and adapters, tolerance stack-up is eliminated. TruPart machines the entire assembly in one CAM program.
